Bones is one of “them”.

Oh, you know who “them” are.

They’re the ones left out on the street.
They’ll do most anything for money.
They have an eating habit
that just won’t let them go.

They will never be like “us”,
oh heavens no.

None of “us”
would do what they do,
even if we knew how,
even if we could.

Oh no,
we’re oh so very much better
than “them”.

Bobby

Bobby - got to get Bones out of there so he won't be 'One of Them'...

Thanks Bill,

For wishing Bones well.  However, the hood is so much a part of Bones, that leaving it would kill him.

Perhaps Bones's paradise is something that one of "Us" would view as a ghetto. I like Bones.

Thanks dear Arana,

Yes, where Bones lives is considered a ghetto.  It’s a poor, very crowded, Catholic neighborhood.  There is a Polish Church, an Irish Church, a German Church and an Italian Church, and each one has a large grade school attached to it.  We have kids galore.

Bones and I, we go to the Italian Church.  All of the churches are within easy walking distance.

We are not better, but probably better off.

I have heard stories about "them" where there humanity is bared in heartwrenching ways.

No, another life wouldn't kill Bones, but to leave the known for the unknown isn't easy for nobody.

Thanks dear Margherita,

No, Bones would not die if he was removed from the hood.  However, why should he leave the hood.  He loves his neighbors, and has many relatives living there.  He loves them too.  leaving the hood would make Bones very unhappy.  He plans to live, and die in his hood.  That's just the way it is.

BTW, Joyce Carol Oates wrote a book titled "Them".  It's one of my favorites.

I was a bit surprised by the title
I always saw Bones as one of "Us"

After reading...  I was happy to discover that I was correct

Thanks XOx Uriah xOX,

Yes, you are correct.  “Them” is surely “us”.

"There is a Polish Church, an Irish Church, a German Church and an Italian Church, and each one has a large grade school attached to it."
And this is one of the reason there is always a "Them". I grew up in the same mix of religions. So divisional in a neighborhood.  latearrival

Thanks dear Latearrival,

There is no division in the neighborhood by religion.  We all belong to the same Holy Roman Catholic and Apostolic Church.  There are only differences in nationality.  We all get along very well.

The us and them is purely social economic.

You’ll be pleased to know that we burned our last Protestant at the stake back in 1998.

Thanks for reading and commenting.

Thanks dear Shellie,

You will love "Them".  When I read it first, I kept saying to myself--"Hey, I know those folks."

Love Bobby
