June 30, 2009

As rockets red glare
over Baghdad,

it is....

Iraqui National Sovereignty Day.

May tomorrow be calm.

May peace prevail.

May the nightmare

truly be over.

May our troops

come home.

Amen to that. I hope the peace will be more peaceful than the 33,000 sorties a year on Iraq between Desert Storm and the moment Bush imagined weapons of mass destruction and wasted some of the beautiful American youth there.

Troops will come home, but chaos and disaster will prevail I'm afraid. They have to learn to fight their own battles.  Well put dear Midnitsun, you write so earnestly and movingly about the Middle East, I'm tempted to ask if you have a family member down there.

Thanks friends!
Heart, I lived in the Middle East for a year, made many friends who are still there.
The ME is always close to my heartbeat.

Thank you for your humanity, Kacy.  And, Heart2Heart, Kacy has family all over the world, you and me and everyone, for it is she who teaches us so well, that we are all one.

Thanks for information Midnitesun, I appreciate very much your poetry about the Middle East.  I have travelled extensively in all the countries of ME, they were for a time my main market areas, so I know Iraq, Iran, Libya, Syria, Saudi Arabia and Egypt very well.  I think I will look out my poem "Women in Black" and post.

Owl, thank you for your enlightening words.
Having a brother with wife and two daughters who have lived in Baghdad for two years now you will understand my concern too and appreciation of Midnitesun's poesy.

Dear Midnitesun, I have looked for my poem "Women in Black" which I know I posted on Poetry Castle about 4-5 years ago, but I can't find it.  I know their harddisk crashed a couple of years ago and it might have disappeared then, I lost many of my poems when that happened, also the other members, it was a tragic loss for many of us, because speaking for myself, I was so silly to use the site as a filing place for most of my poems. The poem was about the strength of those black clad women of the Middle East, whom we often deem weak and submissive, but really they are not, they are strong, proud and stately and really the "boss" of the family. My brother works for the Diplomatic Corps in intermediating between EU officials and the Iraqi Government, he does a great job, but it's a highly perilous and dangerous one.  This weekend my sister-in-law and two nieces are coming home on holiday, and I'm so pleased.  Trying to convince her at least to remain at home, but she wants to be with my brother. I have offered to take care of the girls while she's down there, but surprisingly they want to remain too.  But Robert, being my only brother, I am terribly worried about him of course, because although he has guards, he never knows when danger will strike.  He has been in Iraq twice, this is his second assignment.  He tells me the locals down there are extremely worried at the Americans withdrawing, because turmoil and chaos is bound to happen.
Love and kind thoughts to you from

Katriona, oh my, this information makes me quite concerned for the safety of your brother and family. While I have hopes things will transition smoothly in Iraq, the multiple edges of reality are rough and dangerous. May they remain safe and well.

Thanks for the visit, Yann and AW.
