Lumpy oatmeal makes me crazy!

Mama’s rooster tracked me down
Lurching on his frozen toes
Flapping wings as he spun ‘round

Late at night in my nightgown
When I’d wake and have to go
Mama’s rooster tracked me down

Beady eyes would stare and frown
Hunching down, his head held low
Flapping wings as he spun ‘round

On the throne he’d peck my crown
Little legs kicked to and fro
Mama’s rooster tracked me down

He’d fly straight up off the ground
Darting, making my fears grow
Flapping wings as he spun ‘round

His life ended with no sound
Dad took him as my tears flowed
Mama’s rooster tracked me down
Flapping wings as he spun ‘round

Now that is the first villanelle that I have ever read with a humorous bent to it! They are usually serious ~ and writing one is serious business! I find them very difficult to write. I'm more of a 'free range' henner. I mean, "penner"!  lol

This ought to put a smile on our big buck!

Love 'n a hug ~ for you and Balladeer!

Yo dear Alison,

When we lived in the country, our rooster used to always attack my youngest son.  He was pleased when I chopped its head off.

LOL, yep, roosters can be quite cocky!

But you really got me with this one, Alison, writing about a villanous rooster in the villanelle format.

BRAVO!

You did a great job with this perfect Villanelle, dear Alison! I wish we could have "re-educated" our roosters, instead of making them end upon our tables ...

You know I also had such an aggressive rooster, I remember those risky times very well.

Love,
Margherita

Alison,

(Oh girl, if you only knew of my rooster experience living here on the farm!)  This is too cute!

My mother had one rooster who did a terrific cockle-doodle- ??? but when he hit the doo part he went about four flats too short of his intended pitch.   How tone deaf can one animal be?    Enjoyed this a bunch.

have a great day!
