Hand of God
by Linda L. Dowd

Eddies of bubbling emotions,
are swirling from toes to my crown.
Sucking the last breath out of my lungs,
~ I fear i am going to drown.

Weary from woes overwhelming,
~ I'm losing my grip and control.
Troubled, dark waters are on the rise,
and I’m caught in the undertow.

The river is rushing onward.
It’s taking me ~ I know not where.
I am rudderless, lost, and sightless.
~ I’m drowning in a sea of despair.

Oh, my dear Heavenly Father.
I’m adrift and my life’s all askew.
I’m floundering and sinking quickly,
~ Now I put all my trust in You.

The wild, tumultuous waters,
were quieted and rendered calm.
~ For from out of a clear, denim sky,
came a Light and God’s proffered palm.

I was lifted out of dark waters,
and laid upon summering clover.
Sunlight was warming to skin and my soul.
~ Those cold, dreary days are now over.

.

Your message here is exquisite.

From your profile I see you encourage reasonable critique, so I cannot, with clear conscious, help myself.

My encouragement? Become more aware of the effectiveness gained when using a bolder, more assertive approach to lines in which "action" is depicted, perhaps making the image less passive, thus more actively involving your reader in the experience of reading the poem.

Just my two cents worth of blarney to take or leave as you choose.

I did enjoy the sentiment of your poem very much and I thank you, in earnest, for it.

lunaticfringe ~

Hi, there, Claire! That's a cool username. Welcome aboard the pip ship.
I appreciate you taking the time to write such a thought-filled response to my humble penning. Pssst, pssst, just between you and me, I just write what pours out of me and I do not put much thought into it. For those who are more learned in the art of writing than I, my poetry provides a field day! lol I have often found that if I overthink a poem, I lose the flow of thought and get lost in a quagmire of do's 'n do nots. I will take note of your suggestions and hope my subconcious recalls them the next time I spill some ink on the page.

I also appreciate your generous comments!

Giving you a warm, welcoming pip hug,

Earth Angel

Good morning, Goddess!

Sometimes we all need to be reminded that His Hand is there and all we need to do is reach out for it.

Thank you for your warm response, Michele.

Linda

Smiling here. I'm pleased you liked that line. Hmmm, I could also have written "summering heather"! lol

It was nice to hear from you, Heather!

LOL

Your comment about summering heather reminded me...

When I was a little girl, my mother bought a sweater for me and told me it was the color of my name.

I cried and stomped my feet because I thought it was so ugly!!!

Of course, I no longer feel that way.

Hugs,
Heather

Venerable Wise One ~

Hello, Owl! No matter has befallen me in life, I have never allowed myself to get that low. I inflate my heavenly water 'wings' and keep on stroking with God and his angels leading me out of dark waters.

Loveya!

My Mom knitted me a heather sweater! My word, I was not particularly fond of the drab colour. However, she told me that there was a hug and a kiss in every stitch ~ and I then loved my sweater. I felt swaddled in love whenever I wore it. Now that my Mom has gone, I would dearly love to be able to wear that sweater. Alas, even if I still had it ~ I could not wear it! I'm a much bigger girl now!

How would God ever not hear an Angel's prayer? Angelo Terrestre you are beautiful, when you cry and when you smile. You are the embodiment of inner and outer beauty combined with a deeper perception of life's meaning. Your sharing is so precious always.

Love and hugs.

Dear Angel,

That the poetry pours out of you is a blessing, and I read this poem with great interest because our lives are filled with overwhelming incidences and decisions that often seem to have the upper hand over choice...

To glimpse the mind of God, wiser and more loving than I, take the helm is a vast relief. I loved the light in this poem, and the joy of hand which penned it here!
