Meet me in the moaning cave,
take me by the hand.
I will be your willing guide
in this adventure land.

Enter within this hearth of earth
where touch is all that matters.
Listen to my wildly beating heart,
drumbeats and thunder cannot compete.
Fiery ovens of Hades have less heat
than this spirit you shall meet.
No need for light in caress of night,
crystalline ecstasy awaits you
in the arms of midnite.

Reach up and feel the power
as argonite stalactites reach down
to meet striving stalagmites.
Whispers of Love echo
in moan, you are not alone.

Meet me in the moaning cave
where light received is light you gave.
Love and compassion, friendship bright
in darkest cave, no need for light.
Let the midnitesun guide your heart
in the bioluminescence
that is Love’s delight.

Moaning Cave is in California. Impressive stalactites and stalagmites can be seen at California Cavern, (Cave City, Caliveras County CA.) For poetic reasons, I used Moaning Cave as the setting. It is a marble cave, and to go deep within the caves requires 165 ft rappel and lots of belly crawling in tight spaces. My claustrophobia and unwillingness to crawl around in tight narrow passages prevent me from going deep into this cave, which features an ascent referred to as 'Godzilla's nostrils'

Hi Dixie! Caving is a thrill everyone should experience at least once in their life, more if possible. There are great caves all over the country, probably even somewhere in your neck of the woods.

So many wonderful lines and visons in your final description of these places. Enough for another poem. Fright, crawl space, claustrophobic, Godzilla! And your reluctance  to visit Hades fiery ovens first hand - I cannot blame you. Metaphors abound here  - pits of shame - enlightenment - facing the light - The great deep - The veil of the sactuary - Daarth etc.

I Went to the Mendips (SW England) and caved there a few times. After a while it was all very uncomfortable. But caves are full of mystery and worlds beyond our own - bones, bats and frozen waterfalls scattered throughout.

Excellent topic! One thing I learned was write it once, twice, three times, four, five and six - until the energy is all out - every last ounce of breath is there leaping from the page. PHEW!

Thanks for visiting, Diana. You'll enjoy the cave write more after you recover from your head cold!

Hazard, thanks for the reply and feedback.
Guess you'll enjoy another cave tune write, about spelunkers (one from the past) with the powers of saxaphone magic entertwined. I'll find and edit it as needed then repost.

LOL, well, since the interpretation always belongs to the reader...
This is one of those 'crossover' pieces.

I've never been inside a cave. I think I have a little bit of claustrophobia. So, I wouldn't go in too deep, anyway.

Caving isn't for everyone, Sue. Still, there are caves you can visit that don't require rapelling or crawling.

Helen, glad you enjoyed this! Hope you've had a chance to visit a crystal cave.

DS, you ARE entering something very much alive when you're scuba diving!
It's good to feel confident about safely exiting what you enter.
