The ocean swells and subsides
oblivious to the change in the sky
lost in his darkest depths
opens not his downcast eyes
so vast, all shores are his
never ending, just always is

Foaming in anger at everything
only him constrained, he thinks
rage against the land sun-dried
rising to heaven while he sinks
in black thoughts again and again
darkness so complete in the end

Shakes his fist at the sky
his mightiest of foes
free to move wither at will
upward how high no one knows
to toss him about in restless mood
he lingers in eternal darkened brood

Ships appear on the horizon
valiant tamers here they come
all mistaken in their pride
they are lost, each and every one
and not a trace survives
as he swells and subsides

The sun and moon keep away
lost in their own pursuits
as the land revels in its strength
and holds the ocean mute
he yearns to join in their play
to turn back to another day

His wrath makes him blind
to the sky as she brims with tears
sad for the love he doesn't feel
and her voice he no longer hears
the ocean swells and subsides
oblivious to the rain as she cries

Wow...the last two stanzas, especially...

quote:
The sun and moon keep away
lost in their own pursuits
as the land revels in its strength
and holds the ocean mute
he yearns to join in their play
to turn back to another day

His wrath makes him blind
to the sky as she brims with tears
sad for the love he doesn't feel
and her voice he no longer hears
the ocean swells and subsides
oblivious to the rain as she cries

Splendid personification! If the ocean hadn't been in my blood before, it would be after reading this... you've captured the power that mesmerizes.

This is the yang side of the ocean.
Fine imagery, Jer!
