The hood is home to Bones.

The hood is crowded and dirty,
it sometimes smells bad.

He has no hope,
or desire,
of ever leaving it.

The hood is where Bones heart is.

It’s where all his friends live.

Bones gets taken
from the hood quite often.

Bones always finds his way
back home.

The hood will never let Bones go.
Bones belongs to the hood.
He’s the hood’s property.

The hood will never set Bones free.

Bobby

No doubt there is a very very strong connection to the place where we have grown up. In your words I detect a mixture of happiness and of belonging, but also of the awareness that it's the memories that exercise a great part of this power of attraction.

Though I don't live anymore in the place of my childhood I still feel my roots so strongly and feel the longing to return there.

Great topic, well rendered.

Love,
Margherita

Thanks dear Margherita,

For your insightful, and kind comment.  I'm happy you read the poem that way.

You know the old saying--"There's no place like home."

~yo, dear bobby...

we almost always seek what is familiar...whether it be good or bad...because it gives the appearance of safety and comfort...

Thanks dear Brneyedgrl,

You are correct.  Bones is always safe here in the hood.  However, he's not always comfortable, because he's often times hungry.  That's why he sometimes leaves the hood to bring in some money.

Bobby, while carefully packing and re-packing boxes of treasures to move to a new, modern (I know--me--MODERN??) apartment from my huge old home in my huge old Victorian neighborhood, recently, I happened across a  particulary treasured keepsake--a lovely Christmas Card you'd sent me years ago.

After a few tearful moments during which I realized how fiercely I once cherished and depended upon your presence online--although at The Academy of American Poets workshops, I decided to "Google" you. (Hope it was as fun for you--being googled, that is--as it was for me!).

I see you're still writing eloquently of the old home place. Good. These stories need to be told, and who better than you to do so?

I'm glad I found you, sweetheart!

Dear Claire,

It's great to see you here Hon.  I hope you are doing well in your city.  Your city has always been a favorite of mine.

I'm doing great.

Dear Claire,

I don't remember any Google messages from or to you.  Are you sure it's not someone else?

Perhaps I've forgotten something.

Love Bobby
