Oh, here she comes again
and she's wearing that face,
the one she always wears
for the one who got away.
She's pining for Mr, Right
(or should I say, Mr. Wrong)
and I know, without a doubt,
she'll be singing that same old song.
Or maybe she has written another poem
on her single issue,
something from her heart,
that might require a box of tissue.

Perhaps I should just shout through the door
that I have been quarantined
and spare myself the ordeal
of conversation...
if you know what I mean.

Ida, you've quite the wit...

and sometimes, we do what we do
because it's all we know.

But thank goodness for spitfires!

Yo dear Ida,

I bet she's not near as bad as you make her out to be.

Thank you all for commenting. Actually this poem is about a neighbor I remember from my childhood. Her loser boyfriend left her for someone else and she was always looking for a shoulder to cry on.
She could clear my house faster than a heat seeking missile. When she showed up everybody disappeared leaving my Mom to deal with the drama and bad poetry. Oh, and Bobby, I never thought of this women as bad, just boring and not someone I could ever understand.

Oh, Ida, I know what you mean! But then I also know that you are a compassionate soul and will "go through the ordeal" ... you are her audience, she needs you. You may look at it as a volontary service ... and that, you know, is always rewarding.
Great write.

Love,
Margherita

Actually, Margherita I was pretty young and didn't go through the ordeal. My Dad and all of us kids cleared out and and let my Mom go through the ordeal. I really do think of myself as a very compassionate person when it comes to real problems like illness or someone or something being mistreated. In a case like this, probably not so much.

Dear Ida don't be to hard on the poor soul,
The fact that she has picked you out as a friend, on who to unburden her problems, means that she thinks you are a kind and compassionate friend, on whose friendship she appreciates. We all have faults my dear,
some perhaps worse than others, so give her a smile and an attentitive ear and you will feel better for it. Love to you dear lady.

Come on, gentle friends, There has to be an easier, more useful way of earning one's stripes. Perhaps I have done a bit too much explanation of the situation. I don't seem to be connecting. I kind of wrote this from my mother's point of view since the rest of the family usually made our escape.

This is funny. Nobody likes to see somebody in pain, but it's embarassing to see someone caricaturize themself.

My dear Ida Belle, I always get a kick out of reading about your slices of life. They're so real and vivid ~ and honest. Frank and charming at the same time!

Love 'n a hug,

Sorry..had to laugh at this ... not so much jokingly, but because of the growth to the end and then ... the end!

Really a cutie...

Okay, I had to laugh too - I wanted to say, "Poor Ida.  You are explaining, but no one is listening!"

I really liked this poem because it does remind me of people I have known and - yes - people my mother has befriended that we would all hide from

I can't believe that I missed this one until yesterday.

I barricade myself from others from time to time -  as I listen and then move on. Ida's dwelling and pulling others into her machine - cartwheeling her song.

I liked the humour in this - Misfortune has its fool!
