                     DONATIONS

Shaun O'Shannessy was shifty and at graft was no novice
When in the mail arrived a letter, please come to the tax office,
With his conscience in conflict with the money that he’d saved
He arrived for his appointment but a quick solution he craved.

The taxation officer said to Shaun, “ I’m glad your not late
For there’s a few claims in your return that I’d like to get straight,”
They slowly went through each item without faults of exception
But when they came to a donation it had the smell of deception.

“It says,” said the taxman, “ that a large donation you have made
Five thousand dollars to the church is the sum that you’ve paid,
Now I’m sure that you will have some form of verification
For the truth is always required in this suspect situation.”

“It’s the truth to be sure,” said Shaun with so much conviction
“For to state a deliberate untruth is not my addiction,
You ask Father O'Malley, I’m sure the truth he wont besmirch,
He’ll confirm I gave a five thousand dollar gift to the church.”

Next day the tax office contacted Father O’Malley,
They came straight to the point without thoughts of to dally,
“O’Shannessy claims he gave a five thousand dollars amount,
Could you verify that please, so we can close his account.”

Father O’Malley smiled slyly but with a twinkle in his eye
And said, “ I’ll check on our books and then I’ll ring my reply,
And though Shaun is not renowned for giving donations of excess
I’m sure that in this case you’ll find the answer is yes.”

Yo Lindsay,

This is great.  I bet the good Father shook Shaun's tree good.

Good always triumphs over evil.

Love it.

There was no escaping in the end!

Enjoyed your tale, dear Lindsay, as always so well written and holding humor, but with a life lesson embedded.

Thank you!

Love,
Margherita

The old saying,"You can pay me now, or you can pay for it later"  really applies.

We all pay one way or the other, in the end.

Another really fun write, my friend,

Great story...if Shaun knows what's good for him, he'll cough up the five big ones! Otherwise, I'm afraid he's doomed!! haha!
