A flash of life
-
A blue and red kingfisher ensconces itself
on the meek tamarisk trees; shower is coming;
the boy’s mother’s voice comes from the earthy hut.

A gale’s rising yonder; it is the time to search
for the new calf. The sky has come down near fields.
He calls for the young cow, harking wind’s fiddles.

It is his planet, shared with beasts, birds and fishes.
The ruddy kingfisher flies back, this time in its beak
a flash of silver proclaims, a fish’s last pain.

He founds the beloved calf; sky is screaming hard.
A flicker of bolt makes him remember the fish,
flashing just before its death, midst predator’s beak.

The gust of wind laughs aloud, “You have to run fast.
Rain is going to catch you both, make you wet.”
They run. They can. Some cannot make the escape.

The kingfishers we have over here are mostly emerald green and blue, would love to see the one you're describing.  A beautiful poem no doubt with metaphors.  Enjoyed very much.

Yo Poddarku,

What you say is true, not all can escape.

This poem works very well, I like it a lot.

As always, the world stops turning while I read your every word, and drink in every nuance, every subtle emotion, understand the soul of every character you paint, and follow every lead you give us to the exact spot you mean us to reach, without a single extra word.  Your mastery of language is superbly woven into a wonderful collection of poetry, mature, way beyond your years.  Thank you for the pleasure of yet another excellent poem, Kushal.

Oh, and I forgot to say that the title is just right, for many reasons.

Dear Ku, you take in the scene and elaborate it in poetic words and what comes out is a deeply impressive work.

Your poems can be memorized because of the vivid "Flash of life"!

Love,
Margherita
