~ Forgotten dreams ~

Old yacht upon the river moored
Do you dream of days gone by
You've seen a few adventures
Your sails white wings against the sky

You've skimmed the stormy breakers
And kissed the salty spray
Your pennant flowing in the breeze
As you danced across the bay

But now those days are over
You're anchored in land's lock
Too old to face the ocean
Marooned in grassy dock

No longer making trips abroad
Bereaved of sails and mast
That bore you to the coral seas
A wreck you are at last

And ageing queen forgotten now
Yet are you content to rest
To keep your memories to the end
Where seagulls build their nest

Still your grand appearance
Can inspire a dream or two
Of wind and wave and waters
And high seas clear and blue....

A fine write, nice imagery and the rhyme/rhythm is great.

Thanks Midnitesun, many of those derelict boats lying on the shores where I wander.

I bet that old yacht has some great stories to tell.....and with a little paint, a little love, he should be back to his adventures again!

My dear;  How well you paint this dear old vessel, oh!  but to sail again with it's dreams.

Loved it.

Interesting how you wrote of a worn out yacht...now I am thinking of a not so worn out yacht, a well taken care of and a dearly loved yacht and her sea dog, both that lost an able skipper as she passed on to cancer...memories from my past...James

This brought such a huge smile to my face.
You are such an incredible poet.

Truly a joy to read, even the ageing queen sounds good the way you write her.

Ah yes ARH, and that's what many do, but it really takes a lot of TLC plus money to get those old vessels back into their former  beauty.   Thanks for sweet reply:-)

Would love to take on the job to restore one of those old boats, but there never seems to be time.  Thanks for lovely response Midnitesun :-)

A boat does always inspire dreams, you are so right and you have brought life into this old queen resting on the shore ...

And you brought back memories too ... a yacht which was admired and loved a long time ago on the lake of Zurich ... must be a resting queen too or nurturing her vanity in a museum   .

Wonderful write.

Love,
Margherita

~Well I think you have the TLC for it, and for money well, if it is a dream, it will happen, I love taking old things and making them new, sanding and painting, gives a feeling like no other....kind of like a long lost love, taking it and making it new again...

Your welcome for the sweet reply
