Did I not say that I loved her.......as I held her hand so tightly when there was a tempest?

Then the sea was calm and the sky was blue.
Her youthful smile most radiant, as our souls entwined

For we had sailed many journeys and spoke of oneness

Then when the sea had unleashed it's rage once more...
Did I not go back and hold her hand?

But the hand had wizened and the soul had tired, as I gently let her go.

there's a bittersweet resignation to this...as if the discovery was at the same time not only reminiscent of something lost, but also a rude awakening of something ruefully learned...excellent journey you've taken the reader on here...well done

The innoocence of youth, and the cynical advent of old age.
Sometimes we lose the finer things in life, by trying to seek the lost feelings that can never be recaptured.

We become 'adaptive' in our old age and hardened to the vibrant passions of true love.

It is often felt that life is built on convenience and not passions.

Oh, George, how extremely poignant!

I love your reflections. Today is our anniversary and I think I just needed to read this.  Otherwise why would I have dived so deeply ....

Love,

Thank you Marghereta.....
I am not good at love poems, but I felt this one sent 'many a true message'.
