~ Twilight reflections ~

The hills slip over each other
Until their shifting shadows die
In pink and skyward shudders
As light turns solemn in twilit sky

While of these hills the western-most
In changing waste of gold-rose brine
Rears high above the mid summer coast
And fading olive hyaline

Till all the distance overflows
And meadows recede into violet-blue
Then pink and mauve. To fuse and close
A darkling purple fringed anew

With colours that on hill tops soar
Kindling the summits as they grow
A dusky flame on tranquil shore
The pathos of the afterglow

In audience to the skies that call
Ineffable in rest and all......

Heart2Heart,

"A dusky flame on tranquil shore
The pathos of the afterglow"

Every word picture perfect,

Why thanks Bloodline, the air is so pure and clean on the western islands of Scotlad, that's why we get those gorgeous sunsets :-)

beautiful couplet in the ending, but I found this genuinely lovely as well...

Kindling the summits as they grow
A dusky flame on tranquil shore
The pathos of the afterglow"

This, is incredible writing:

With colours that on hill tops soar
Kindling the summits as they grow
A dusky flame on tranquil shore
The pathos of the afterglow

I especially dig the last line there.
Amazing.

I left you a message on Carpe' Diem and who knows perhaps one day in the next few years, you can show me this view?  I have always wanted to go to Scotland and find my roots there.

Lovely poem.

We are kind of seeing the same thing, today, Katriona.  Not the first time...there is such a wonderful connection there with us!

Happy that I took a few minutes to stop by this site today and find your lovely poem!
