I was sobbing
On the phone to her
We hadn’t been on good terms
But I needed her
I needed her at this hour

My new cat
Was ill
Deadly ill
He was going to die

So I called her
She picked up
And I spilled the story
Taking him to the vet
Getting a blood test done
Getting the results
Crying
Wishing
Begging
So I called a friend
To explain

“And-”
“We don’t think he’ll make it!”
I sobbed
My mind thinking
Not this
Not this again

You see,
My other cat died
From the same thing
1 in 5000 cats are born with this
2 in 10, 000
And they both had to be mine

“Too bad.”
She replied,
I could see her shrugging
I wanted to scream!
Too bad?
My cat will die and
It’s just too bad?
I think I might cry.

This is the girl who
-No joke-
Left me at a party
With no money
For a cab or train ride
At ten at night
After she promised me a ride
After she cried in my arms
Because people were ignoring her

This is the girl
Who is a vegetarian
With high morals
But she scoffs down
A meat pie
A seafood dish
Without batting an eye

This is the girl
Who when I told her my dreams
Scoffed at them
And told me that
It would never,
NEVER,
Happen.

This is the girl
Who complains about me
Behind my back
Complains about everyone
Behind their backs
But cries in my arms
Because people are gossiping about her

This is the girl
Who knocked my front tooth
Almost out
With a remote
With a
“Uh… sorry. It was an accident”
As a reply
It cost me thousands
Of dollars
To fix
She knows that my family
Is scraping the bottom as is

I feel like I must ask myself again,
Why am I friends with this girl?
If all she does is take the good things?
If all she gives is a half-witted response?
If all she tells me is that I am not going to make it?
If all she gives to the group is two faced lies?
Why should I degrade myself like this?
Why are we degrading ourselves like this?

Sadness, like happiness, has its own majestic beauty and must be embraced as a valid emotion, not pushed down as an abnormality.

Amazing poem. It conveyed your emotions perfectly. There is always a bad egg in every dozen and they will never amount to ANYTHING! I hope that you are alright.
