Fear,
Jolts up my neck,
Sharper than death.

Thumps bounce,
Beneath my breasts,

Lips, awkward,
And trembling,

Wait to breathe in
A breath,
Of toxic tension
And shaky limbs.

Eyes, stared down,
By blurry,
Impatient,
Fuzzy faces.

Intense.

Speak, I tell myself.
Just speak!

But the acid in my stomach
Throws a fit;
I run.

Failure,
Jolts up my spine,
Sharper than death.

Thumps beat,
Faster than a rocket ship.

Lips, settle down,
I can speak,
But…

…it’s too late, now.

"When I die, I want to go peacefully like my Grandfather did, in his sleep -- not screaming, like the passengers in his car"
