Walking on the edge of knives,
ever-present, ever-there.
Waiting for the fire to spike;
waiting for the flame to flare.

The anger that I've long suppressed,
the fury that I push away,
comes crawling back on knees of pain,
that wash the ice of calm away.

Carefully, methodically,
I try to quell the rising flood,
of anger, fury, red-hot fires;
the rampant boiling in my blood.

Oops, too late! You saw it there;
you saw through my cool disguise.
The one that no one else sees through;
hiding under jade-laced eyes.

I don't know how, don't know why you're
the only one who finds the hole
in the armor made to fight the world;
the minute flaws in my control.

I need to center, find my core;
the single place that unchains me-
the vertex point that you can't find-
to fix my shattered effigy.

Quick as lightning, flashing down,
the frightening anger that you saw,
is frozen; ice-bound, trapped inside,
the wait another fiery thaw.
