This poem is dedicated to little Wyatt Hieter.

"Daddy's" here he would scream
the smile lighting up his face
when he heard daddy's diesel truck
coming up the road

Why did his daddy have to go
doing what he would have done any day
helping others
It's who he was

"Daddy's hunting" he would say
the sadness in his eyes
when he was dropped off
at our house

Why did his daddy have to go
doing what he would have done any day
helping others
It's who he was

"Daddy's home" he would say
the smile returning
When daddy came to get him early
To take him home

Why did his daddy have to go
doing what he would have done any day
helping others
It's who he was

"I miss daddy" he now says
because daddy's not coming home anymore
and a three year old doesn't have a daddy
Why did his daddy go

Because daddy stopped to help
doing what he would have done any day
helping others
It's who he was
