Awoke in time for sharing food
with a man, a former emcee.
Scrutinizes now under debris.
Looks, smells, hears just like me, but
helpless with his ration in hand,
a cane in the other to aid his stand.
Rather tall in his soiled blankets
that reach the earth,
eyes of ash gape and
salute jets flying so low,
reminisces his worth.
Muffled mic on stage,
no audience to hear.
Testing one,
two,
fear;
O, why do they look so worry free?
Blue circles still blur his
vision from the stage lights
so bright,
burns his skin
slurs his speech
causes eye lids to crawl closed
like curtains released on stage
to end the show.
But they don’t know,
‘He just threw it away in fantasy dreams,
Syringes and seeing things.’
But they don’t know
‘Grandma never gave him enough
attention to pursue some book.’
But they don’t know
‘Guns and money were his protectors;
Sold out friends and killed his successors.’
But they don’t know
And never knew how he gave his life
for them.
