       Relief

You still held on to strong hopes:
Getting back to your sewing room,
   Taking trips to Joann's,
   Looking at fabrics,
   Picking out patterns,
   Having fun sewing them.
I had weaker hopes:
Getting you out of that bed one more time,
Letting you see the back yard,
   Catching another smile.
How could such a flimsy hope
Tear such a jagged hole
When it was taken away?

A bereavement expert told me
That at the end, I had relief.

Relief?
Sure, just cover the wound with bullshit.

Sadly, people just don't know what to say. I wonder whether people say the things they do as more of a comfort to themselves because they don't know what to say. If that's true, I'm not sure they are aware of what they're doing. They could simply be projecting. This shows its emotions well. If it speaks of your life, I wish you whatever it is you need right now.

I know his hands will dig up my secrets"

Thank you for your good wishes.

The expert I mentioned is the bereavement counselor assigned to assist me through the process. She is familiar with the process, but had never met Kathie or me before Kathie died.

I know there can be relief at the time. I was there when my mother died after a three year struggle where her pain was often severe.

I was there every day helping take care of Kathie. I wasn't ready. I'm still not ready to be without her, but I don't get a choice.

None of that sounds like relief to me.
