You told me that you thought of me
when that girl was dying in your arms
you thought of me
and my body
when you felt the life go out of hers
you prayed for her
and her father
you held her
while she cried in pain
she was only eleven
and her car had crashed
she wasn't going to survive
and
you
thought
of
me
you thought of little eleven year old me
you hadn't spoken to me in
three years
but
you thought of me
when a girl died in your arms
you thought of me
and how much it would hurt to lose me
you thought of me
and my hair
while you brushed hers out of her bloodied face

Did it hurt
thinking that you'd lost me?
Did it hurt
when i told you about my illnesses
did it hurt
when you realised that
i would give anything
to be that girl
because
you were there for her
even in her dying moments
that you were there for her
when she needed someone
yet the countless times
i've almost died
with no one
no one
to hold me
no one to cry to
no one around

Does this hurt you
to think that you agonized over
a daughter that you could lose
and to realise
that you're not her daddy anymore
you're not anyone to her
but the man who walked out
and never came back
I hope you know
you lost me a long, long time ago
Think about that.

My pen is the barrel of a gun. Remind me which side you should be on.

The parent...impaled upon a stake of their own design and upon which they must remain, crucified for their unforgiven sins. All too often the weight of their lifelessness is carried by their sinless offspring.

Sinless? Faultless?

Your poetry speaks volumes and is admired.

...just bein' Bluesy
