The blackness that takes over
Does it have a name?
Do the thoughts of pain and blood
Does that have a name?

Can a monster be truly terrifying
if it does not have a name?
Does an evil need a name
to destroy?

Are the things inside us
the darknesses
the corners in our head
that hold those secret yearnings
do they have a name?
Do they need a name?

In some religions,
names hold power
you know someones name
you can destroy them
but do names have this power?

Does screaming someones name in fear
Screaming at them to stop
Do they need a name?
Or is that familiarity not required

Does fear increase when a fear is unknown?
Sickness requires a name to treat
but does fear of illness require a name?
Does the fear of darkness require a name?
Does that darkness have a name?

To speak is to make real
so if we stay quiet, we leave something unnamed
does it make it better?
does the fear become less?
do we simply forget?

Names.

The proverbial labels we attach to things we wish to identify for future, past or present reference. Without them, I don't think we would require spoken language[s].

You and I could just sit across from each other and make faces and slap each other to while away the hours.

Jokes aside, this was a very thought-provoking piece that I very much enjoyed reading.

Do you really want answers to these pseudo-philosophical cliche' questions or are you just trying desperately to appear unique? Naive children might ask these questions and could be fairly addressed, but someone here in this forum must truly be in the 'Dark'.

They're all the same nightmares whatever anyone wants to call them. Strong writing my friend.

It was just a thought which made them run. It was just an act that killed them.

To name something is to define it. To set parameters and create control. To leave it nameless is giving it power over you. Lovely piece, sends my mind spinning over the questions asked. ~Lia
