I try to settle into slumber
but alas I cannot sleep
for I await a visitor
one that torments me every night
one that terrifies my soul
and tries to rip out my heart
as it beats faster & faster
even in the anticipation of my visitor
entering my room like a slick mass of molten lava
ready to encase me in it's intense suffocating ways
I am so frightened I cannot breathe
and my body stiffens and I cannot speak
in the dark I am weak, I am alone
and my night visitor knows this
