I could say I never expected this; but who am I to alter the script

And become the liar

And no, I never suspected this; what-if's and could've beens, crusty blood on moon-pale skin
I tried hard to keep rejecting this; but like the dope that finds it's way into your bloodstream; so irresistable; irreplacable

Now I'm abandoned here, alone; with no substance behind the fiction; afterall, isn't that all we are?

Fiction written on pages, pages turned to chapters; Chapters that tell a story; Depicting characters we've made believe; Or is this more genuine?

More accustomed to falling short of the truth, but so much more than the common lie?

Are these tales substantial enough to report upon; Or just phases made believe to pass the time? Are we time?

And with every step placed forward, does another day greet us with a smile?

Slouching in alleyways and dodging all words unspoken - simply to say - this isn't real?
