My best friend joined the Army
18, only been on the planet briefly
His war cry, now louder than a banshee
Trained to kill all secretly
Fighting on the same sand that held gladiators,
real thugs and real drug dealers.
He writes to me...

He writes, newly awaken from a dead sleep;
I guess not enough counted sheep
He writes lookin at our portrait
Two funny faces like we were pirates
Love in the world he can barely reap
like it was tossed to a garbage heap
It's in the dirt so cheap. A cold chill.
Too many dreams ended in that landfill.
He is scared, unknown to him, he is about
to make his final crusade into the lands
made of sands lead by his Colonel.
The shockwave was unbelievable
in fact I didn’t believe it...
I didn’t want to hear it...
My mouth open, tears streaming
I screamed so silently, I couldn’t even mumble.
my mind’s eye wouldn’t close, even as I trembled
realizing I can’t stop the frightening sight of raw-lightning

Here I come buddy, I just signed the papers
Your mom is my mom. Your sister is my sister
I took care of them buddy, they are safe now
I just gave them the coin I saved for college
Thirty grand means nothing to me now
I suffered a strike given
out of love from our mother's hand.
Her eyes filled with tears man.
It shattered the last piece of my heart man
But since your death, I aint been the same man
I've seen friends turn to foes.
There is no polyphonic prose that can describe it
I'm getting nowhere like a car with a broken axel.
But in a battle I'm the prevailing wind.
There aint one commandment I won’t leave sinned
I'm a dying breed like the confederate rose.
When I die my poems won’t decompose
hang any Turban from a vehicles radiator hose
But homie when I am finally beside you
We will spit heaven's hymns from the summer till it snows
Cause I know neither of us need a bell to ring
to receive those angel wings.
Homie, we will move without traction
Cause love for our lands....
is stronger than an electromagnetic interaction

- If I cant bend Heaven, I shall move Hell -

A moving paean to the tragedy of war and how it affects all of us.

In this day and age we all know someone touched, sometimes in a tragic way by it.

On the seashore I espy the dreadful void under the tides

I would like to add that I have a friend in Helmand province in Afghanistan. So it particularly struck a chord with me.

On the seashore I espy the dreadful void under the tides

Lyrical. Great label to your poems. Seems you write so effortlessly.

Full of power

For all the suffering embodied within, this poem was a pleasure to voice and on the second reading, built up to a fervent sudden finale.

Beauty can be found in all places, even within the darkness of the soul.
