a thousand years from now
will the strip be sand
ground down from
cast lead and human flesh
just a part of the beach
where tourists comb
through cinder and stone
for momentos and relics -
a cooking pot, a page
from the koran,
a small child’s shoe
with tiny fragments
of bone
wedged neatly in the toe.

Hey Jennifer:
I always love a dark futurescape. This one's good, especially with the strange loop you use to end it with the speaker possibly standing on the ancient debris.
