The Fair

The ferris wheel goes 'round and 'round
Up high then back towards the ground
And from this distance, not a sound
As the ferris wheel goes 'round.

Bright, flashing lights, turn silently
'Round and 'round, so silently
And I can't hear the childrens' glee
With them so far, away from me.

O'er the tents, the top, I see
Imagine, the calliope
The painted horse that's under me
The wind in face, as he runs free.

I watch the old merry go round
In the silence, not a sound
Spinning close, above the ground
I watch the merry lights glow, round.

Those flashing lights, of the midway
Seem to beckon, "Come and play."
But, I think, "No, not today."
As I slowly drive away.

The rides and hawkers are no fun
When, they're laughed at, by only one
And this ride I thought, had just begun
Is near the end, and, almost done.
