she sat close by with a smile and curls
cherub-face exposed to a watching world

a love so early, measured by mistakes
living a life with what it takes

to forget the wrongs and forgive the flaws
a world speeds by without a pause

no notice of her beauty, a moment in time
captured forever as if to remind

a night in passion's play, wild and unrehearsed
to quench a desire, to slake a thirst

she sits with a grandfather so proud, yet blind
to the errors of love so that he could find

the joy of his life in smiles and curls
while he holds his head high in the eyes of the world

There you go Steavenr,

That's the way it is with Grandfathers, and that's the way it should be.

Grandpa means the world to my boy.  He lives for his grandkids.

Thanks for a very nice poem   T.S.

Bobby, Bill, and Trace,
thank you all for the kind words...though I am a grandfather myself (and very proud of it), this was not written for or about my grandchildren...went out to eat tonight and a little girl was sitting with her grandparents in the booth next to us...within minutes, I knew the story of her life, theirs, and the little girl's mother.  If I had a picture of her, you would immediately see how she was the inspiration for this one...thank you all and Merry Christmas

Beautifully done steavenr. The stuff of poetry is everywhere, and I've lost count of the many times I've been inspired in some public place where life unfolds into art.

Congrats!---
