My weekends are busy. I need to know where the funerals and the weddings are in town. I am a pastor. This week I read about Julia. She was a real person and was 96 when she passed away. I did not know her, but felt compelled to write this when I read her obit. I write a poem for all families in funerals I preside over, but rarely for someone I do not know. For what it is worth... Julia Carr The years have flown, or so they seem Like quickened sands through life's hourglass Though years dissolve like morning's steam And times both good and bad have come to pass At ninety-six the decades roll Like lilies on life's meadow-field A life so full, a deep-rich goal Enlight'ning others with selfless soul Sharing all the joys of life A loving mother, a grand one too A loyal and a caring wife Pointing children in what to do She leaves a legacy of Christ's rich love Of hope and glory, of faith and peace And goes to her home that's built above By her ever-faithful Prince of Peace |

This is wonderful Pastor. I think of the great Czeslaw Milosz who had a personal mission in his poetry to memorialize those in song by carving their names in everlasting stone, who might otherwise not be remembered. Best wishes, and a merry Christmas! art |
