No one

not ONE

has ever

left his wife for me

considering the odds of it

meaning: the longevity

of relationships which last

I'd say I always started fast

and hurt me on the gate.

None of them

got close to me

some of them came near with words

but no one ever tossed the nest

every one sang me absurd

songs, of twit twit twittery

to the timing of their watch

as if I were a moment, caught

between responsibilities

angled with the sun.

I watched the waiter take your glass;

I motioned just one more for me.

He nodded and he asked if that

would be added totally -

"all of this on you?"

I replied to him, "of course."

praying I had two twenties

and some thing to pay for your

simplified goodbye.

The waiter brought my glass of wine.

I gave to him my twenty-nine

pleading with my eyes...

He told me that I was most kind

and with two fingers to his lips

"complimentary"

he said

leaving that tray tabled by

my cigarette in signaled sighs

wishing I oh wishing my

pieces of my heart don't cry

in public,

so misunderstood:

Someone might think that I care..

If I cried a tear for you.

If were not such a fool

staring at your empty chair...

wishing for a fight.

this is one of those writes where I don't know what to say...do I admit this brought a smile and a hearty laugh, do I try to console you by telling you that you dodged a real bullet...you don't want some guy that you are still picking the tab up for, or do I get real sincere, and wish the best for you...tell you what--I will let you decide...because they were all true while reading this very good write...really good writing lets the reader move through a plethora of emotions...

Your fine imagination is way too hard on yourself sometimes........Then again it makes for some smoky bluesy scenes that fit into the mellow regions of the cure reflections can bring.
I felt the intensity of your fictitious situation and I loved the conflict!

You're right, dear lady... It all comes from somewhere... and I found myself in more than a few lines of this... It should have been required reading for me long ago. *S*
