you had painted your toes earlier
while I was busy polishing my shoes
and then we only walked in the sand
and laughed at our in common things

like the dust we wore so distinctively
and how kisses feel at first
before you can think back on them
while wanting them more again

and there was the sea shell you found
that fit into your navel like a gem
you wondered who would notice it too
at the ballroom when your gown was damp

and everything else seemed obvious
but you said you didn't mind the exposure
since you had already given everything to me
and what was left was just the residue

unless I wanted that too somewhere private
