No wishes shall be granted me.
No presents present by the tree
Santa has learned how to grieve
and Jesus must be dead.

I've had better holidays
when we tacked the wall with lights
across a blank apartment wall--
it was the grandest tree I've dressed.

My brother, sickened by sadness
took the lights, and grinned madness
and carefully he stapled-gunned
the likeness of a tree light-sketched.

"Now there's a tree!" he said to me.
Always his voice boomed the room,
and then he turned to sister's three;
I said, "Yanno? I think it's cool!"

So we took the ornaments
and hanged them on the wire;
we saved all the tinsel found
draping it, reflecting fire,

placing branches where we could.
No we had no presents cleft
in silver wrapping with bows set
but we chimed our glasses, whet,
smiling clusmy huggsy "Hood!"

and celebrated family....

as if we were bad holiday
movie scripts denied as thieves
said it don't work out that way.
But I remember four of us
staring at the wall.
We held each other, spilling trust
and love and rust and real--

My brother played guitar.

You may not believe this, but I would gladly trade you my Christmas for any ONE of yours.  You know I love you, and I would have loved him and her too.  I can't play guitar but I would learn to just be part of love like that, honest!

The warm memory of innocent siblings spontaniously celebrating, is the music of Christmas past.

The joy of my belief in the risen Christ, is an eternal reunion with my children, siblings, parents and grandparents.

My prayer is that everyone share the joy of Christmas now and forever.

Rae, I fussed over that first verse, not wanting to be determinedly offensive during the holy days, but I thought about it, and if Hell is the absence of God/Love, then it's appropriate here.

I miss my family. I know you do too.

Shar? Keith would have loved you, as I do. Probably more. You can turn a yeti into a puppy dog!

A Christmas without lights and tree,
Without gift cards, big screen TV,
With only brother's old guitar,
Love’s mysteries have brought you far.

Life's constant pressure has polished your diamond, Serentity. Thank-you for sharing its sparkle with us lumps of coal...

Ah, lady... sometimes it seems all the best times are in our rear view mirror. *sigh*

This goes straight to the heart.
