No wealth have I amassed or kept on Earth;
In realms of Heaven, all that I have stored,
Remorse in hell is all it could afford:
So little I achieved since my doomed birth.
Of life, all that my soul has gained is dearth,
But loathed blots to fill my ill record
In His grand book of time. Amid the horde,
I’d feel relieved to oar the fatal firth.
But that you’d left me to my means and end,
I would have long since bid this world adieu;
But love for you enticed me to amend
My course, and with fresh eyes start all anew.
Such riches gain I, having you as friend;
That I could give you more than such ado!
