She sleeps but then awakes
to the echo of a need
feint like a tinkling bell
in the midst of thunder storms.

She listens with the ear of one
who nestled close to source
in the long ago days of yore
still recalled unto this day.

But tossed within the restlessness
of sleep again denied
mind relegates the echo
to the land of fantasy
well known to be a place
of infinite beauty.

Her smile is tinged with sadness
as she formulates new rules
but yet and still she’s satisfied
that control has come to roost
in the sphere of passion’s hold
so long an awe inspiring
imprisonment.

So of echoes then they cease to be
when morning shuffles through the trees!

nice write...I love your use of words, especially in this phrase:

"feint like a tinkling bell
in the midst of thunder storms"

I welcome this wonderfully expressed morning together with you, dear Helen.

Instead of in "imprisonment", I wish you passion in full freedom. And in sunlight...

Beautiful rendering of your "sleep".

Love,
Margherita

"feint like a tinkling bell in the midst of a thunderstorm." So love this line.

Thanks so much Steaven, Arctic, BC, Margherita and Ida.  That was a sleep that wasn't but perhaps tonight it will be one that is.  Where there's life, there's hope so where there's night, there's sleep - one hopes.

Having had many a restless night where my mind makes rules my heart breaks again even before my teeth are brushed, I can definitely relate! *S* Well written!
