White Writing on White Paper

a movie plays on a blank ceiling
sleeplessness made me wonder
if later I could pull myself from
sheets to pretending I was alright
the past had placed a charm necklace
around my neck heavy in its position
each one had its own story it seems
talking constantly at the same time
it is wearing deep on my nerves
with the burden left on my heart
disappointment gleams much brighter
than accomplishment lately, bitterly
I can not get a hold of my breath
in this choking matter of air fleeting
finding myself franticly swimming dreams
in day light hours and later in darkness
questioning reasons of this stranded chain
one flexible ring linked one to another
trails of clutching red lines remain
as I try desperately to remove or break
this hold in indentured attachment
was this white writing on white paper
in connection once to be my comfort
where tears are now my only bond

Helen this is so sensitively powerful.  I loved all of it best, but found the part about the tension caused by all the charms of the necklace talking at once, particularly original and effective.  This an exquisite poem.  I hope it is an old one and that you aren't feeling this anguish currently.

tears stain
the white page
when even the
words dissolve
the taste of tears
are even saltier
I know this feeling too

Oh, my... you write with both strength and sorrow... and you leave me breathless.

This is fantastic!

Oh Helen...I do get this.  I struggle to remember the good things when all the rest is falling down.

Friends and lovers come and go, leaving behind bitter tears and disappointment.

It's my kids (family) that are always there.

That is what I hang on to.

Now breathe with me...

*smile*

That's what I used to do with my babies when they would have a crying jag. Just feeling me relax, relaxed them.

We'll have to try that one day.

love you lady
