      Winter Window

outside this Winter window…

The raven flies
a thousand snowy
  valleys
without respite.

The wise man comes
upon a withered leaf
and knows himself.

The frosty moonlight
  spreads
across these frozen hills,
timeless as our fleeting
dreams.

Even the greatest beauty
harbors unquenchable
   sadness.

Ahh, dear Bruce, you write so well of beauty and sadness!

They are linked because we always sense the impermanence of everything.

A poignantly beautiful winter write, Bruce,
especially this:
"The wise man comes
upon a withered leaf
and knows himself."

And even the greatest sadness harbors unquenchable beauty. For example your poems are often sad but ever so beautiful.

Much wisdom in your words and some that I have learned and recognized since studying the Cherokee.  Excellent reading here.

I came to "P.I.P.-land" in part via a study of the Cherokee
[and other "Native" (true) American cultures/philosophy]
Other than Nature itself, I can't think of a better 'path' toward
true wisdom!
