Annotations Of A Distant Star

First snow, lengthens the distance to hope
Staunch shadows of barren trees paint dismal pallet to my eyes
Quietness, at odds with the restless beat of my emotions
Gears grind into silence, wheels spin into concave ditch
Sullen, spiritless winds diffuse the cold over wet concrete
Leaving thick and brittle truths to slip against the soul
Here, I have fallen…wisdom so hard won crumbles into shards
Yet, I cannot look away, nor dismiss the sky in its elegance
To lay down, prone upon the crystal carpet
Moving life and limb in the mime of annotations and innocence
Somehow, the purest part of breaking is the puzzle put together
Then make me more than what I’ve been
Heat and cool me, whole again
This is peace, sent down to reconcile loss
So compelled to levy imprint of an angel on the earth
For darkness is too weak to overtake the glow of winter white

Kathleen, that ending is magnificent, and leaves this reader with a sense of hope.
I'll be saving this to read again.

I loved your winter white here, its starkness does overpower even the darkest of the dark.

"Somehow, the purest part of breaking is the puzzle put together"

To make the pieces fit again or for the first time can do that...make that burden almost worth it

The below makes me want to make a snow angel but will have to settle for sand angel on the beach here.

-----------------------------------------
To lay down, prone upon the crystal carpet
Moving life and limb in the mime of annotations and innocence
Somehow, the purest part of breaking is the puzzle put together
-------------------------------------------

and then of course ........

-------------------------------------------
For darkness is too weak to overtake the glow of winter white

so very true ... almsot as if showing us there is promise and hope even in the coldest times of our lives.

Beautiful write and very much adored this one.

TD, you are a poetess extraordinaire! I love your poetry. It is in a class of its own.

As per usual, your writing speaks to my very core.
