ECSTASY
20 August 1986

My eagle, that taught me how to fly,
Remember the freedom of the blue
blue skies, and the sun
that warmed our wings.
Remember how we dipped
and swirled
and twirled
and dived
and pierced the clouds,
together.
Remember?
Remember.

Yes, but it is very sad if one of a pair doesn't remember, or doesn't want to - or if they both don't know that the other remembers.  Pride can do such damage and steal so much happiness . . .

Thank you for reading and your comments, Hal.

I think just to have such memories is a blessing, Diana. Wonderful writing here.

I think your poem emits such intense vibes, that he DOES remember, but maybe won't admit it.
How often we wonder just like this! I think you speak for many here. And with your usual beauty and depth.

Love,
Margherita

Yes, Ida.  You are so right – and especially right in reminding us.  It is so easy to feel the pain and not the blessing.  Thank you.

Thank you Margherita for your kind words.  You are very likely to be right, but I think he probably remembers with anger rather than nostalgia or love.

Thank you Lindsay.  I am glad you loved it.

Thank you Juju.  I am glad you enjoyed it.

Thanks for the kind comments Yann.  It is actually a poem about the same man who my poem, Altruism (which you responded to) is about.

Sometimes, even the best of times don't last... and sometimes, only one cherishes the memories. But yanno?  *S* That's enough. *S* For some never get to fly at all... I feel lucky to remember. *S*
