Bones is just a tiny
slip of a boy,
but he’s fast, smart,
and hard.

If a new boy comes into the hood,
the corner boys have Bones
check out his metal.

Bones will pick a fight
with the kid,
you know,
call out his mother,
or something like that.

Bones watches the new kid’s eyes,
how the kid handles his hands,
and he makes a judgment on the kid,
thumb either up, or down.

All Bone’s decisions are final.

Bobby

Thanks dear M,

You are very close, although Bones never did mess with school much.

Oh, the little guy had authority then!

Made me think of the Roman Emperors, thumb down was very final too for the gladiators ...

Thanks dear Margherita,

Yes, Bones had great authority.  Society many times places grave responsibilities upon the unsuspecting, and sometimes ill equipped.

Thanks dear Juju,

For reading and commenting.

Society has many ways of setting up the pecking order.  It's a given for the human experience.

I hope Bones is doing alright. Concise yet meaningful narrative as always Bobby.

Thanks dear Jill,

Bones is a purely fictitious character.

He is however based on memories of two old friends.  One is doing very well as a retired cab driver here in Philadelphia, the other died in a horrible accident on the elevated rail line here in the hood.
