I Am Me

Life isn’t always what you make it
Often times life is just thrown at you
If by chance you cannot change things
You learn how to make it through

You do the best with what you have
As you reach for those goals and dreams
You work to put the past behind you
No matter how hard it seems

When memories of the past come back
To haunt you, yet, another time
With all of the negativity buried inside
You work to erase it all from your mind

After you reach a certain age you realize
A lot of what you were told is so untrue
Years and years of so much turmoil
Eventually send you out to search the truth

I am no longer who I was made out to be
Nor have I been for quite some time now
All that negativity sometimes slips back in
And, that is when it seems to raise a brow

You needn’t worry about it, my friend
It’s not something I intend to keep
Just remember though, I’m not perfect
I am me, and that is all I can ever be

I think the only good thing about growing older is the fact that I am more able to figure out what is important and what isn't
and let it go. Maybe the word isn't important but neccessary.

Realizing who you are and being true to yourself is half the battle so be happy in the fact that you are ahead of a great percentage of people who are still searching for yourself.  Nicely done

Every self you have experienced has enabled you to know the self you are now.
Nice work.

Yo Oklahoma Rose,

This has fairly decent meter and rhyme.

And I for one (of many, to be sure!!!) am glad that you ARE you!

I doubt that there is a reader who could not identify with at least one of your experiences in life.

Hopefully we all gain is wisdom from them as you have!

Loveya!

You have grown so much in my few years at PiP.  Your writing reflects this - as does the messages that you write others.  It's a pleasure to share these boards with you.
