.

So let
This old man
Sit down

It is more
Than the years
That make him tired

Give him
A place at the hearth
Bring him food and drink
Allow him to rest
By a welcoming fire

The air grows colder
By the hour
With little before
And too much behind

Bring him what solace
In a cup of wine

The compassionate gaze
Of an autumn moon

Yo John,

You nailed it Babe--"too much behind".  Really in more ways than one.

This is a great poem.

Thank you all

At some point
I always seem
to go back
to the ancient Orient
for kinship
and perpsective . . .

Blame my year in Okinawa

Thanks again

John
