So,

now that the music is over,
now that songs have been sung,
now are promises broken
now is the muffled bell rung.

Everclear and beer,
drink of immortality,
blessed favorite way
to pass my time of free,
time I seem to bear,
a monk whose cell is cloying,
to drink it every night
just with twist of gall
and zest before I crash
turning from forbidden mirror,
asking what's the deal
is real the issue,
or is it just in pass of time
that rings silver spirit calling chime.

Now that speeches are spoken,
now that the bill will come due,
now the new king's clothes see daylight,
now taste what ignorance grew.

I thank my gods at last
for all the patience that they've cast
within a life of flagrant degradation.
It is I think beyond the drink of blood
that I've been given skill
to scry within my sipping bowl
when all my will,
when every fiber
every cell
of this tumbled shelter for ancient soul,
cries out
in craving peace of evermore.

Everclear and beer,
drink of immortality,
blessed favorite way
past my time to be,
at peace
every time I hear the bell
the chime,
the cry of those once free.

Awesome. Serve chilled.

I too crave that eternal peace - and have a little hope that finally, just finally it may be getting a start.

Liked this a lot Icebox.

hold up...

you have to come to Jax first and hang out with me.  I wanna listen to you talk for hours.

Lovely writing as always...you can make what would seem to others so undesirable, desirable.

Truly remarkable piece of poetry, dear Charly. If it took a sense of degradation to make you write like this, to have this craving and to share it, it was meant to stir a deeper consciousness.

Love,

You always write so as to inspire contemplation and I have never found you to be anything less than enjoyable to read.  This is no exception.  Excellent to read you sir and it reads quite well aloud

Dear Box of Ice, this write is rife with
outstanding lines!!! Here are a few of the most memorable ones for me:

~ "turning from forbidden mirror,
asking what's the deal"

~ "this tumbled shelter for ancient soul"

Sending you a warm, comforting hug and a replica of the magic mirror that I conjured up for myself to keep my sanity! Whenever I say, "Mirror, mirror, on the wall, it says "You"! Works like a charm! winky wink
