Listening to every heart

0 posted 2008-11-14 11:21 AM

The Other Lives Lived

There are long ago, distant times in me
Know heaven’s truth, and there is more than one,
Of places lived, loves known in distant past,
Some feelings unsaid, and deeds left undone.

When oceans span far to receive waves call
Or standing alone in medieval halls
When walking in moccasins of cured skins,
Or times this body was darker of kin,

Memories flood deep through my resting soul
Perhaps blue dreams be but déjà vu’s shoal,
Far back in time do deep memories roam
Shadowy spaces, faces, call me home.

A vessel roaming large from shore to shore,
Knowing the heart of a pirate’s deep core
Vessel sailing, soaring breeze’s curry
Memories less vague, no longer blurry.

So, listen to a lone balladeer’s song,
When hoot owls joined in skies dark and belonged,
When lyres strummed Greensleeves, love sung to her,
And memories warmed like a mulled liqueur.

Times of roaming, knowing flatland grasses
Webbed history of ancestors passing
Being one with spirits, the wolf, and deer,
Consider a Great Spirit still lives here.

The sorrowful times of being owned whole,
Carrying chained scars ’round body and soul
Spirituals were what encouraged a heart
Ancient histories: I have taken part.

Listening to heartstrings, memories smooth,
Of long ago lives from us far removed ~
Not to listen would cause one great dis-ease,
For those memories now heard on a breeze.

In these long ago and faraway times,
My soul is again warm from rich mulled wine
Entranced by the medley of these old songs,
My souls rejoice, all memories belong.

Yo dear Sunshine,

This is fine writing, and I like it a lot.

Some people are privileged to live a number of lives.

Moccasin walks are still in my blood and walking through this poem was very peaceful.  It brought to me some memories of times I cherish.  Nice read indeed.

Dear Karilea - you are privileged to be able to recall and then share those recalls so ably with us.  Thank you but ... I've got bad news.  This isn't the last of your lives.  The good news is that I think that with a bit of awareness we are able now to plan the next one.  I have in mind that another life is not for me but in case I change my mind I'd better do some planning.

Beautiful aspects of consciousness blend in awareness of each other. Each touching the other in a multidimensional dance of love.
Wonderful work Karilea.

Karilea, this is truly Sunshine magic!  I felt I belonged in this exquisite collection of mystical memories swirled into each other like rich cream into liquid chocolate; like colours swirling into shades and nuances of themselves and flowing into others; like whales singing messages to birds who pass the message on to dogs barking the message on to other dogs on the next hill in the night; like the multitudinousness of the universe flowing into its own oneness; like the diversity and the unity of PIP.  This is a poem to read and reread and reread and reread, with more enjoyment each time.  One thing that I did have from my parents was that they both read poetry to me when I was young.  If I had been exposed to this poem then, I know I would have asked for this one time and time again.

It whispered to me of another favourite I have had since childhood.  It is called Dedication and is by Henry Wadsworth Longfellow.  I have put it below:

DEDICATION

As one who, walking in the twilight gloom,
Hears round about him, voices as it darkens,
And seeing not the forms from which they come,
Pauses from time to time and turns and hearkens;

So walking here in the twilight, O my friends,
I hear your voices, softened by the distance,
And pause and turn to listen, as each sends
His words of friendship, comfort and assistance.

If any thought of mine, or sung or told,
Has ever given delight or consolation,
Ye have repaid me back a thousand fold,
By every friendly sign or salutation.

Thanks for the sympathies that he have shown!
Thanks for each kindly word, each silent token,
That teaches me, when seeming most alone,
Friends are around us, though no word be spoken.

Kind messages that pass from land to land,
Kind letters that betray the heart's deep history,
In which we feel the pressure of a hand -
One touch of fire - and all the rest is mystery!

The pleasant books, that silently among
Our household treasures take familiar places,
And are to us as if a living tongue
Spake from the printed leaves or pictured faces!

Perhaps on earth I never shall behold,
With eye of sense, your outward form and semblance;
Therefore to me ye never will grow old,
But live forever young in my remembrance.

Never grow old, nor change, nor pass away!
Your gentle voices will flow on for ever,
When life grows bare and tarnished with decay,
As through a leafless landscape flows a river.

Not chance of birth or place has made us friends,
Being oftentimes of different tongues and nations,
But the endeavour for the selfsame ends,
With the same hopes and fears and aspirations.

Therefore I hope to join your seaside walk,
Saddened and mostly silent, with emotion;
Not interrupting with intrusive talk
The grand majestic symphonies of ocean.

Therefore I hope, as no unwelcome guest,
At your warm fireside, when the lamps are lighted,
To have my place reserved among the rest,
Nor stand as one unsought and uninvited.

- Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

I started reading this and had this "déjà thingee" going on and then at the bottom you said, "Revisited."  Well, I liked it before and even more so this time around

Today I needed this one.
