Greeted you three giants,
alone in the midst
of profoundly red ground?
did you offer something to eat,
something to drink
and to survive the dry soil
which captured them?
Brotherly Indians,
brotherly tourists,
if these three ones disappeared
America could not survive it.

Yann, I am intrigued by this.  At first I thought that the "three" were mountains - then I thought they were Native American tribes, then I thought they may be three ethics (perhaps, faith, hope and charity) or three leaders of America - but then I wondered about the connection with mittens . . .

I don't know a great deal about the geography of the USA, but I wondered if this was about Arizona?

You are so deep Owl, these are in facts three sharp hills in Monument Valley (arizona) but the poem keep its meanings by consider ethics who shape USA...a few readers find the meaning of ethics and it fit perfectly...So I would say, thanks to you and thanks to the dear readers...

have a nice day

Hi Americangothic, the mittens are three beautifully shaped sharp hills in Monument valley, This place is so unic on Earth that visiting it is marvellous and unforgettable....This place was often used in John Ford (large rock chimneys) westerns...Thank you for your interesting comment...

have a sweet day

Thank you Yann.  I am glad I understood it so well, even though I didn't know I did at the time!  When I finished reading your reply, I was still wondering where the mittens fitted in, but your reply to americangothic cleared that up.

I am going to read your poem again, now that I know for sure what it was about.
