White, yellow and purple chrysanthemums
cascading through the white, iron fence.
The first thing you see
when you turn the corner onto my street.
Tumbling through the fence
onto the sidewalk.
Once potted plants,
given to me by friends,
for happy and sad occasions.
Now they seem to be
trying to escape into the street
like wayward children.
They have forgotten the sad times
and present themselves
only as memories of happy times.

Yo dear Ida,

Flower plants on the street are lovely.  My next door neighbor has always had two small window gardens.  They brighten up the street.

Her husband Bill recently died.  He was a good man, and my friend.  He liked her flowers.

Love Bobby

I love this, Ida and, honestly, think that I hear them giggling as they make their escape!

Dear Ida, I used to plant the mums I used to receive for various occasions. Some happy ~ some sad. Fortunately most of them were happy!
My garden was rife with their brilliant colours. Alas, when I moved into a new house I couldn't replant them as the property hadn't been graded and landscaped when we moved. I couldn't even transplant my grandmother's strawbery rhubarb plants.

I thoroughly enjoyed this write!!!

Love to you!

It is awesome, these flowers trying to escape are tremendous and what they speak about speak deep to our hearts...

Thank you for the beautiful poem.

Ida - lovely write, I can see the Chrysanthemums as I approach the fence trying to get out. Yet the good times do remain, forever...

*smile*

A white iron fence without those

"White, yellow and purple chrysanthemums" would be so cold (and metaphorically scary too)

I miss the part of "me" that was an avid gardener.

Maybe I just miss gardens? (I'm remembering eight hours of work I'd put into that, and um? *wince*)

Enjoyed your Mums, Ida. (generous bloomers, they are!)

oh

generous bloomers...grin?

I have a few pairs of those now.

Maybe I should get my lazy butt back to the garden, eh?

A fine bouquet of words, here, lady.

Thank you all for your interest and comments. I love flowers and gardening though it takes me a bit longer due to the arthritis I still tend the flowers but have to hire someone for the heavier yard work.
People told me that potted chysanthemums wouldn't grow if you planted them in the ground. I have a yard full of them to prove that they will.

This is very lovely, dear Ida. I have some on my balcony and they slip through the open space to the outside too. I love their fragrance too, it reminds me of my garden back in Switzerland.
