The maverick

He rented a small flat
A place unlike home

His speech was ready
Just like his opponent’s

Who had more money
More powerful friends
All the media
Much, much more money

But he was not as beautiful
He was a “poor Republican”

His foes said a lot
Mostly about him
Some were cruel and lies

His worn body bared
Love that ran deeper
Than disabling scars
That no one could see

The results backed the system
Money and beauty
Red was beautiful
So predictable

His mission then changed
Now to CALM the crowd
And take the torture
Just like Vietnam

He’s not a young man
And they called him Mac

hammering the nails
into your own hands.

Try being
a little less honest

I am a life long Democrat but I too admire John McCain.  I thought his speech last night was beautiful and he was fighting the odds because of the last eight years. I am sure we would have had change with either of these two worthy opponents. Joyce

Lol I have nothing against Mr. Obama.  He one the election fair and square.  There are allot of good qualities about him too, however McCain is my hero.  And I was just Admiring him one last time.

There is something so graceful about him.  I swear if he wasn't, there would be no poem.

I have always been known to criticize society, and this poem was not a critique on Mr. Obama.  I am not sore against the election either.  This is just me admiring my hero, which for like the last six years here I have talked about. This poem was not a political thing, but admiration for McCain.

Bobby, Your a capitalist?????
I thought you were socialist or communist.

Dear Juju,

The green folding stuff is money.  I have a thing for money, and alway have.

Here in Philadelphia the states that voted Republican were colored in red, while the states that voted Democratic were colored blue.

Here in my neighborhood in Philadelphia, we burned the last Republican at the stake back in 2004.

LOl!  I get it lol.  Money.

Well I hope the republican burned at the stake was because they did a poor job, and not because they were republican.

Dear Juju,

Democrats have controlled Philadelphia since 1952 when the great Joe Clark was elected mayor.

We're not about to give it up.

But that would be because they have made your community a better place since, not because they are Democrats right?

You're a brave lady in the present atmosphere, Juju. The is a fine tribute to an old man who fought a great fight against overwhelming odds. There is no reason I can see to pretend that he ever had a chance but he gave it his best shot. I am an independent myself.

Before they even had a candidate, the Republicans had lost.  Everyone knew it, and that's why they chose a warrior.  Only a true warrior can fight a lost battle well. And maybe there was too much of this or not enough of that in the race, but the ending speech was very well done, as expected.  Lots of people voted for McCain, lots of people voted for Obama, but in the end we all voted for a better America.

I am so glad you wrote this -- on a whole bunch of levels. There's been a lot of hatefulness in this election, even from the side that usually has next-to-none, and it's refreshing to see a political poem which doesn't have even a wisp of it on display.
