It took a time, the longest time,
for the candle to decide
to make its last flicker
but it went the way of all good men
when the wick no longer upright
can’t burn the flame, desire.

The decision crept up slowly, sly,
like all predators do
when intent on killing the life force
inherently in everyone.

I watched the agony of death
from a point above the feel
like one who knows to not descend
into another's misery
yet I know with all my senses
of this circumstance.

So in this circumstance of life
desire has come and gone
and no wick can re-invent itself
to stand again upright
in another lump of wax ~
and yet, and yet, the wax is love
and it remains still here today
to tell the sorry tale.

But of sorry tales they are old news
and for my sins I bear the news
of new horizons beyond death
if one can forget
the candle and the wick!

"and no wick can re-invent itself

Interesting write, these "new horizons" of a "candle and the wick."  Great metaphors, I liked your analogy.

old wicks
in new bodies
of wax
like new wine
in old wineskins

perhaps perhaps
keep the faith
as i know you do

Thanks Steaven, Janette, and Inkedgoddess.  Yes, keep the faith seems a good thing to do.
