One Reason, Or The Other

They don’t care about Women’s Rights
Or even, a Woman’s, “health”
Seems all they want to talk about
Is, “Obama wants to spread the wealth!”

All honor has been displaced
By the fear, that they might lose
Cheap shots, lies, and innuendo
To try to sway, the way, we choose.

It’s been the same old rhetoric
Repeated, time and time again
The same stories and the “Mavericks”
And, “Joe, the plumber”, wearing thin.

Not the same as George Bush?
Well, maybe that could be true
But, there is the real potential
For it to be worse, with those two!

Palin is just an embarrassment
What was he thinking about?
To think she could be President
Places his judgment, in doubt.

And where are his health records?
Don’t we have the right to know?
If there is nothing to hide from us
Let us see what those records show.

There’s no doubt he means well
And, maybe, thinks he is the best
But, I’m afraid he’s gone off course
With the old, “Straight Talk Express”.

I know some folks won’t vote Barack
For one reason or for the other
And sadly, too many won’t admit
It’s just because, of his color.

Well, I’ve already voted early
And I’ll just let you take a guess
As to who I think, will bring change
And straighten out our Country’s mess.

Yes We Can, Stand For Change We Can Believe In!
(penned and posted last February)

Are we finally coming of age
Are the answers within reach
Can we take our Country back
Fight what the corporations preach?

Will it be for, we the people
The way, it was meant to be
Can we stop the loss of our rights
Return to, the land of the free?

One man cannot change it all
He can't take it all apart
But with our help it can be done
And at the top, is where we start.

The status quo, has got to go
We all know, it's got to change
We can't wait, till it's too late
Now, is the time to rearrange.

It all started out with NAFTA
Bill Clinton could have stopped it cold
Now, the China Trade Agreement
Has them make most all that's sold.

The Congress and the Senate
Let it all snowball and grow
We borrow from the Communists
They'll bankrupt us, don't you know?

They give King Bush a free hand
To do most anything he likes
Like torture and wiretapping
And so-called preemptive strikes.

We must hold them all accountable
If they won't do the People's will
We merely have to kick them out
And vote for someone who will.

We can bring our Troops home
From Bushes ill begotten war
Give them the care they all deserve
Before we lose too many more.

On the other hand we can vote
To stay a hundred years in Iraq
Where we should have never gone
So sad, we can't take it all back.

All that we've been wasting
We can start to spend on us
If it's not too late already
If our treasury's not gone bust.

People caught in our disasters
Could get aid instead of rhetoric
And told they will not be forgotten
While they live in trailers and get sick.

We could develop other energies
And get away from foreign oil
Like cheap, renewable sources
Grown here onAmerican soil.

We can take tax cuts from the rich
And give the middle class a break
Bring jobs back to our People
That corporations want to take.

Maybe, fix some roads and bridges
Have health care for everyone
Fix schools and pay the teachers
Just some things, that can be done.

As far as the “super delegates”
They best listen to, what voters say
Not just put in, who they want
With some arrogant power play.

It surely is a time for change
It's time for the People to rule
Instead of the corporate politicians
Headed up, by some other fool.

Maybe we'll restore our image
And be what, we once stood for
A beacon that the World will see
Once more, leads to Freedom's door.

But, we can't show them anything
Unless, we first, see the light
And guide our Nation to the place
Where we the People, have the Right.

Some may not get past the color
That's sad, in this day and age
It's time for them to get over it
So, we can turn another page.

Let's hope he'll do what he says
That we won't get the shaft again
And when he wins the election
It will be all of us who'll win.

We may not get another chance
At the least, not one like this
It's a once in a lifetime choice
That, would be a shame, to miss.

Intersting ... a political poem ... each to his own.  And yes by all means ... vote.

But...

"Palin is just an embarrassment"

I beg to differ.

I live in Canada, however, I am fascinated by American politics ~ especially the current presidential race.

I enjoyed reading your take on it.

May the best man win!

Ahhhhhhhh...

Now this is serendipity--I was just telling a dear friend that with media scrutiny, and the tv politico factor, we'd never see an "Abe Lincoln" again.

Looks like I was wrong.

Bravo to you--can't say I agree with every verse, but I applaud you for speaking your mind. And like you, I see a lot of troubles ahead...no matter who quotes the oath, I do pray that we can remember unity once again.

smiling--

and we heard it from "Abe"!

Where is Obama's birth certificate?  Don't we have a right to know that, too?

Still, interesting poem - not every day you see a political one.

I believe that Obama should win this, there's something about John Mcain that annoys me LOL
~ Obama seems like he has the right stuff to be a president! Sarah Palin in a sweet girl too, but Obama I think should win lol

Enjoyed your thoughts on this VERY interesting topic...

I agree with Artic Wind, there is something about John McCain, that bugs the bejillies out of me.  I won't even get started about Sarah Palin.  Well, whomever wins I hope they do your country a service that is needed and quick!  If Obama pulls through on his promises, its a start.

There are usually no good winners, only wah-wah losers, this time I was right ....
~
But ... that's my story ... and I'm stuck to it~~~

I colored in my candidates spot ... and it doesn't feel so bad~

And yeah ... we'll see down the road to hopefully a healthy economy
and an economy that is healthy for us all~

Enjoyed your poem and I like the way that you have put forth your ideas.  How about that Obama--another president out of Illinois--I hope that his presidency is as successful in reshaping the ideals of our country.

I will be checking out more of your poems.  These are the first that I have read.

Thanks for sharing your work.

Jefferson wrote of the possible need for a 'revolution' every few generations to preserve true 'democracy' (perhaps this is one of those times)  I'm sure my ancestor John and my son John would both approve of grand-potential change! I'm not sure that (since the time of Andrew Johnson at least) America had ever headed down the wrong road as far as with the (lost-in-the)Bush administration!

serious applause for this timely 'write'!
