an autumn clam bake

a dozen men and only four women
ferments an odd mixture at a clam bake
when men cook and drink beer outdoors all day

as autumn breezes cool in candle light
the night brews effervescent flirtations
when playful libations are passed around

tiny paper cups filled to the brim
produce no sound when tapped together
sloshing out amber tequila for cheers

laughter is heard when the bearded biker
after watching challenging drink battles
asks a female for his turn at a shot

cool splashes with warm unexpected licks
creates a leavening that excites peaks
revealing that paper cups don't clink they squish

Ceinwyn - I have only been to one clam bake, and oddly enough it took place in St Louis, not on the coast.  And it was ... fun.  Thanks got commenting.

Steavenr - Ah!  That was one of my favorite word pairings, too.  How did ya know?  Thanks for making me smile.

JamesMichael - Elvis?  Nah, just that ZZ Topp look-a-like guy. *wink wink*  You are too funny!  But then I was attempting to be "funny" in this piece, too.  Thanks.

Artic Wind - Yes, fun!  Surprisingly us land-lock folks, with some ingenuity, enjoy clam bakes, too.  Thank you for your read and comment.

Bill Charles - me too!  Hopefully there will be more clam bakes, but it is a challenge for us mid-westerners.  Glad this sparked happy memories for you and thanks for the comment.

BluesSerenade - Yes, big fun.  The "party favors" were varied, but the tartness of an added lime seemed to help with the flavor. *wink*

Thank you for telling me that you liked this one.
