Just another old scribbling

*******

I had my head in the clouds, never fearing a fall.
People sure talked loud, back when I knew it all.
But no one else knew what they were talking about.
At the age of sixteen, I had it all worked out.

The world was too dumb for us to see eye to eye.
I had to do some compromising as the years went by.
But man, I was cool and had fool-proof plans.
At the age of eighteen, I was finally a man.

Clouds over shadowed my day in the sun.
Things got a little brighter when I turned twenty one.
But I never did go the way they told me to go.
Little Mister Know-it-All sure learns slow.

It all turned around when I met the right girl.
Then came the babies and there was my world.
They helped me find the path that I never could reach.
Taught me lots of lessons that the years couldn't teach

Now, with my head held high and a right to stand tall
Mister Know-it-All knows that he knows nothing at all.

With the birth of the first, the lessons began.
Self examination of the soul of a man.
Praying for guidance around every turn.
Children often teach more than we care to learn.

They want to be just like me.
I need to bend and be more like them.

Sometimes it seems like it's not really clear,
just who really is the role model around here.

I'm somewhere between a wise man and a clown.
Trying hard to live up to all that they lay down.

They're setting the standards and I'm conquering the hills.

I've got some mighty little shoes to fill.

Very true and wise, Uriah. It's so hard to fill those little shoes.

This is fantastic. A tribute to your children and your inner child.

Really liked...

“Sometimes it seems like it's not really clear,
just who really is the role model around here.”

”I've got some mighty little shoes to fill.”

Good stuff!

very sweet and so worth it in the end

I don't visit this site often enough, and try to go back to read what I have missed. This touched me and brought a huge smile to my face. The sweetest things around us are the little shoes, and everyone thinks they have Big shoes to fill. Now as parents, we finally know what that truly means!! Great write!!!!!!!!
