So this is my fill? It’s not even full.

I tramp uncaringly
through the thin embarrassed waters
of a weak, pinkeyed stream.

Pitiful rill…

forget your father
and his lariat.

  Forget the broken home
that left you half-spawned
hungering for thirst of strife,
the glory of dead tongues
tasting the yore-worn minutes
of the torrents that was mother’s
late, millhouse-grinding Rome.

  Forget the broken home
he forged from steel wool,
the conundrum
(your birth sprung from lovemaking)
that left you cracked without crease
hemorrhaging without artery
atop that which sits below
beside an angle without curve,
that woman of similar circumstance:
the children, the boys of twelve,
the boys of youth and ire

the straits you’ll never be.

Ed,

I miss you when you are gone too long.  This poem touches me deeply - I don't know why we are forced to live our parent's demons and dysfunctions.  They say childhood is the golden time - in reality, too many of us were like those etch-a-sketch toys.  The lines were drawn, the pictures formed, only to be shaken away with the thought that they would disappear permanently.  Not so.  And now we try to connect those lines and it's sometimes too damn hard.

I may have missed the point of your poem - but that is what I love about poetry.  It touches us all on various levels and we may not get the same thing out of it.

You hit my level that is hurting lately.

Alison

Forget the mud in the stream, and focus on the crystal clear spots. Good to read you, Ed.

Some memories we treasure, hold tight and hope we never forget. Others we try to bury, throw away... only to find they're on a bungee cord.

I've missed your powerful work!!
